Gray Middle School Photography Club
Thank you for your interest in GMS Photography Club! I am so happy to lead GMS into our fifth year, as I have lots of new things planned for our photographers!
About GMS Photography Club: Our club is part of a larger non-profit organization called “i.imagine,” which provides photography education after school programs to students in NKY and Cincinnati. Shannon Eggleston is the founder of i.imagine and teaches the GMS class.
Class Description: Each class will touch on three basic principles. First are the fundamentals of photography, as they relate to general classroom instruction. There’s tons of science, technology, math, and of course art included in this fun and creative space! Secondly, we’ll spend lots of time learning the artistry of photography, and how the human eye is naturally drawn to particular artistic elements. Third, every class will cover a relevant social issue facing teens, and how these emotions/feelings and stories can be told in photographs, rather than words!
GMS Photography Club is a judgement free zone. It’s impossible to feel free to create and express yourself if you feel that others may criticize you. We are a family of photographers that focus on the beauty in the photos you take, and more importantly, who you are as human beings.
Meeting Times: Due to the transition from hybrid to full in person learning, Please know that I’m in regular communication with Mr. Novak and am up to date on changes due to the pandemic related restrictions. For the next two weeks, we will follow the hybrid schedule:
“A students” will meet on Oct. 13th, 20th, and 27th and “B students” will meet on Oct. 15th, 22nd, and 29th. Even though the “full in person learning” schedule begins on Oct. 29, we will maintain the hybrid schedule on this day. All meetings listed above will meet in the library from 2:40-3:30pm.
Starting the week of October 26th, Senior photographers will meet ONLY on Thursdays from 3:45-4:45 in the library.
If total enrollment for our club exceeds 20 students, I will split our club into two groups, which will look exactly like the current hybrid schedule with meetings on Tuesdays for “A students” and Thursdays for “B Students” after school until 3:30. Your child will attend ONLY one day per week. This is all in an effort to keep the total number of students in the library to a minimum, so please ONLY attend on your designated day.
If total enrollment for our club is under 20 students, we will meet ONLY on Thursdays, same time, same place, beginning on November 5th.
I will notify all enrolled parents of the confirmed calendar, no later than Oct. 23rd.
Parent/Student Communication: Please download the “Bloomz” app and check regularly for calendar updates and announcements. Important announcements will also be emailed.

Cost: GMS Photography Club is broken into two sessions throughout the school year. The first session starts at the beginning of the school year and ends on February 4th. The second session begins February 9th and ends on May 6th. Each session costs $75, which includes exhibition supplies and prints, camera equipment, exhibition venue fees, and grand opening reception refreshments. The total cost for the year, if you participate in both sessions, is $150. Cost will never be the reason that your child can’t participate. Please contact Shannon Eggleston or Mr. Novak and we will confidentially accommodate your needs.
Do I need to bring my own camera? If you have a DSLR camera, I highly encourage you to allow your child to use it! We will cover care and maintenance, and your child will likely be able to teach you how to get the most out of your camera. If you don’t have a DSLR camera, no worries! We have camera kits available for your child to borrow, which they’ll get to keep at home and take on trips. There is no additional cost to borrow.
There are many different brands and models. The most important element for our class is that your camera has “manual exposure.” If you have questions about this, contact Shannon Eggleston at or call at (859) 801-1045.
How do I sign my child up? There is an open enrollment period at the beginning of each session, in October and February. Here’s a checklist of things you need to do in order to enroll.
